The bottled water you often drink is not mineral water at all.

Every time I go to the supermarket, I am puzzled when I face a whole wall of bottled water.

Mineral water, purified water, natural water, glacier water … all kinds, with different prices. What’s the difference? !

Don’t panic, let’s make it clear today.

There are actually three kinds of bottled water.

Mineral water, purified water and other drinking water

The bottled water we buy every day, no matter how fancy the name is, is divided into two categories according to national standards: drinking natural mineral water and packaged drinking water.

Among them, packaged drinking water is divided into drinking pure water and other drinking water. Look at the water again, is it suddenly clear?

Many bottled water we often drink is not mineral water.

What’s the difference between these three kinds of water?

mineral water

Mineral water (full name drinking natural mineral water) must be naturally gushed from the depths of the ground or collected by drilling, and the water source must not be polluted. The content of minerals, trace elements or other components in the water must reach the specified value of national standards.

Moreover, mineral water can only be treated and filled in the water source, and it cannot be processed in different places. The water source must be marked on the package.

Therefore, what sounds natural and contains minerals is not necessarily mineral water. If you want to distinguish it, you should look at the packaging and mark "mineral water"+"water source" as the real mineral water.

purified water

Pure water (full name drinking pure water) is characterized by purity, and there is almost nothing except water.

The water source is usually tap water, and then it is processed by purification processes such as distillation, reverse osmosis and ion exchange, and most substances, including minerals, are removed.

It is precisely because there are no minerals such as calcium and magnesium ions that there will be no scale when boiling, and it is full of "soft water."

Other drinking water

Other drinking water, one is processed from natural water sources, taken from groundwater, surface water, water in rivers and water in lakes.

Only limited treatment methods such as degassing, aeration, decantation, filtration, ozonation or ultraviolet disinfection and sterilization are allowed, and the basic physical and chemical characteristics of water are not changed.

For example, the natural drinking water and tea-making water of Nongfu Spring are taken from natural water sources such as lake water and mountain spring water, which contain a certain amount of natural minerals and trace elements, but they do not meet the requirements of mineral water.

The other kind has no requirement for water source, and generally magnesium sulfate and potassium chloride are artificially added into pure water to increase the content of magnesium and potassium ions in water and adjust the taste.

What kind of water is better to drink?

In fact, whether it is mineral water or pure water, the water source is tap water or mysterious mountain spring in Alps, the impact on health after long-term drinking is basically the same, because the purpose of drinking water is:

Just to replenish water and quench thirst.

Mineral water with higher price, although it contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium, has little content and is not the best channel for us to obtain minerals.

For example, the calcium in milk is dozens of times that of mineral water.

If you want to supplement calcium, you can’t just rely on mineral water. If you want to replenish water, you can’t just drink milk.

In fact, diet health never depends on a particular kind of food, but on the overall scientific diet structure and food diversity. You don’t have to worry about lack of nutrition if you mix it reasonably.

The biggest function of bottled water is to safely replenish water and quench thirst, and the task of supplementing minerals and trace elements can be handed over to other foods.

As long as it is purchased through formal channels, regular manufacturers produce bottled water that meets national standards, no matter which one, it can meet the needs of safe thirst quenching.

Drink mineral water if your wallet allows, and take more minerals by the way.

Don’t want to spend high prices, just drink ordinary packaged drinking water, which is economical and practical.
